The vehicle administration office in Yiwu, East China's Zhejiang province issued a Chinese driver's license to a businessman from Serbia, who has a driving license in his own country, on April 1. The man is allowed to drive in China without having to take additional tests.
The bilateral agreement reached between China and Serbia on the mutual recognition and exchange of motor vehicle driving licenses came into effect on March 13. In China, Serbian expats who have been living in the country for more than 1 year are allowed to apply for a Chinese driver's license as long as he or she is a holder of a Serbian license.
It is expected to promote economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the two countries.
The businessman, whose Chinese name is Liu Zhuofan, was the first Serbian in Yiwu to benefit from the deal.
China also has mutual driver's license recognition agreements with the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, and France.
