A foreign trade and investment development exchange conference between East China's Zhejiang province and South Africa was held both online and offline in Jinhua on June 15.

Sponsored by the local government of Jinhua and the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the event aims to deeply explore cooperation opportunities between Zhejiang province and South Africa in economics and trade, continue to deepen cooperation between China and Africa, and take advantage of the fruits of China-Africa cooperation.

In the first quarter of this year, Jinhua's imports and exports to South Africa exceeded 1.6 billion yuan ($238.78 million), a year-on-year increase of 54.8 percent, of which imports exceeded 83 million yuan, more than doubling the same period last year.

Jinhua Mayor Xing Zhihong said that in 2021, Jinhua participated in a three-month African product e-commerce promotion event, seeing many African products highly sought after and widely praised by consumers. This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Jinhua and Buffalo city, South Africa. With the event, Xing said he would like to carry out more cooperation between Jinhua and South Africa in medical technology, film and television culture, and COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control, in order to share development opportunities brought about by the Belt and Road Initiative and the Jinyi Area of the China (Zhejiang) Free Trade Zone.

During the meeting, cooperation deals between Jinhua Conba Biopharmaceutical Co and Wepon Africa Co, as well as the Jinhua Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the South Africa-China Chamber of Commerce, were signed.
