Breaking – a style of street dancing and the first competition of the 17th Games of Zhejiang Province – kicked off at the Jinhua Sports Center Gymnasium on July 25.

The Games of Zhejiang Province are the largest comprehensive sports meet in the province and are held every four years. This is the first time a city in central or western Zhejiang has hosted a provincial sporting event.

This year's event will see 1,076 gold medals being handed out for 910 disciplines in 34 sports, and over 16,210 athletes from around the province will take part.

In addition, three major items and 10 sub-items for mass sports will be featured, and three winter sports and one performance item will be added.

To further increase participation among the masses and enhance the influence of the event, popular sports such as bicycle motocross, vehicle models, and board games will also be held.

The event will be held at 34 venues in Jinhua, including 13 newly-constructed venues and 32 upgraded ones, with a total investment of over 2 billion yuan ($299.81 million).

A total of 1,602 athletes from Jinhua will take part in the 17th provincial games and are expected to be competitive in events such as track and field, martial arts routines, boxing, football, and rowing.
