Jinhua Mountain in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province, was listed as part of the second batch of 10 forest parks to be developed into provincially famous mountain parks, according to an event held in Pan'an county, Jinhua, on July 30.

The construction of provincially famous mountain parks is part of the "Big Garden" project, a long-term plan formulated by the Zhejiang Development and Reform Commission in 2019 that aims to transform Zhejiang into a "big garden".

Lu Xianfeng, deputy director of the Zhejiang Provincial Forestry Bureau, said that provincially famous mountain parks boast the best natural resources in the province and are supposed to build a rational resource utilization system on the basis of resource protection.

In August 2018, Dapan Mountain in Pan'an county, Jinhua, became one of the first 10 mountains to pilot the construction of a provincially famous mountain park.

Since then, Pan'an county has spent 455 million yuan ($67.38 million) on the mountain's forest protection and quality improvement, the protection and utilization of provincial historical and cultural villages, and the upgrading and reconstruction of Huaxi Scenic Area. A series of cultural tourism events such as a camping festival were also held.

A total of 1,092 wild medicinal plants grow on Dapan Mountain, accounting for 61 percent of the total medicinal plant species in Zhejiang province. In 2021, the output value of the county's traditional Chinese medicine and health industrial chain exceeded 7 billion yuan, allowing 68,000 residents - over 30 percent of the population - working in the TCM industry to earn a living.
