A group of foreign residents in Jimingshan Community, Jiangdong sub-district, Yiwu, have joined a volunteer team to help with the city's COVID-19 prevention and control efforts.

During the city's recent outbreak of COVID-19, they explained the city's rules and regulations to other foreigners in the community and shared their feedback with the government.

They also publicized epidemic prevention information in six languages including Chinese, English, Korean, Arabic, Spanish, and Persian, encouraging residents not to partake in large gatherings and not to leave Yiwu unless absolutely necessary.

There are about 15,000 foreigners living in Yiwu, concentrated in Jimingshan Community of Jiangdong sub-district, Jincheng Community of Houzhai sub-district, and Cilin Community of Choucheng sub-district.

Many of them helped with epidemic prevention efforts by delivering basic necessities, directing expats to partake in mass testing, and sharing the latest information and requirements with each other online.

While Chinese volunteers can help prevent the spread of the virus, foreign volunteers are also essential as they better understand the needs and culture of the foreign community, said one of the foreign volunteers.
