Jinhua awarded for Sino-Africa trade cooperation efforts

The innovate China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, jointly carried out by the local government of Jinhua and Zhejiang Normal University, won a silver award at the 2022 Zhejiang Provincial Reform and Breakthrough Awards on Jan 5.

In recent years, Jinhua has been committed to improving the China-Africa economic and trade cooperation model, deepening China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, and continuously promoting wide-ranging cooperation with African countries.

Focusing on the innovation of economic and trade cooperation with Africa, Jinhua has launched a number of reform measures, including carrying out the reform of market procurement for foreign trade, building a digital China-Africa trade platform to serve international purchases and providing accurate matching services for Chinese and African companies.

In addition, Jinhua released the first China-Africa trade index, scientifically monitors the development level and risk friction of China-Africa trade cooperation, provides information references and trend judgments for enterprises and African research institutions, and provides an important basis for government departments to evaluate the effects of China-Africa trade cooperation and policy adjustments.

Jinhua and Zhejiang Normal University have established China's first comprehensive African research institute, first China-Africa International Business School, and first African Museum and Translation Hall, and provide education for more than 7,000 African students.

Jinhua's economic and trade cooperation with Africa has continued to expand in recent years.

From January to November 2022, foreign trade between Jinhua and Africa increased by 5.1 percent yearly to 89.08 billion yuan ($13.15 billion), accounting for 29.2 percent of Zhejiang's total trade with Africa, according to statistics from Jinhua Customs. Exports saw an uptick of 2.4 percent year-on-year to 80.03 billion yuan, while imports increased by 36.8 percent yearly to 9.05 billion yuan.
