Hundreds of people gathered at Tongshan Stadium in Yawan town, Wucheng district, Jinhua, Zhejiang province to watch bullfighting in celebration of the Spring Festival and Lantern Festival, which fell on Feb 5 this year.

In Jinhua, bullfighting is a traditional way to celebrate the harvest and holidays. Jinhua bullfighting has been recorded in literature as early as the Tang Dynasty. In 2005, it was included in the second list of Zhejiang's provincial intangible cultural heritage items.

Sometimes people bet on which bull will win the fight.

Some bulls are decorated with colorful accessories and flags. In the past, bulls were expensive for rural people, and normally a bull was owned by the whole village.

Tongshan Stadium holds bullfighting matches for the Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival every year.
