Jinhua in East China's Zhejiang province held the 2023 Wong Tai Sin Cultural Festival from Oct 23 to 25.

More than 300 scholars, young students, and Wong Tai Sin culture enthusiasts from 17 countries and regions across the world attended the event.

A series of activities such as a seminar, calligraphy and photo works exhibitions and intangible cultural heritage performances will be featured during the event.

Chen Fengqi, a local official, said that the festival will play a significant role in promoting the Wong Tai Sin culture that spreads benevolence and advocates goodness, and also strengthens cultural exchanges and humanistic cooperation.

Wong Tai Sin, literally "Immortal Wong" in English, is a known immortal of Taoism who lived during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420).

Born in Jinhua in 328, Wong Tai Sin lived as a shepherd boy in his hometown until he was 15 years old, when he was said to be guided by an immortal and at the age of 18 decided to live in seclusion on Chisong Mountain, where he remained devoted to Taoism for the rest of his life.

Folk legend goes that he often helped others after ascending to heaven and becoming immortal, which is why he is highly respected and admired by the common people.
