The second Li Yu Culture Week was launched in Lanxi, a county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province on Nov 28.

Ten activities such as art performances, food-making contests, drama performances, and exhibitions will be held during the event, aimed at spreading Li Yu's philosophy on the art of living.

Li Yu (1611-1680), a native of Xiali Village in Lanxi, was a renowned literary figure, playwright, drama theorist, and aesthete during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties (1368-1911).

Praised as the "Eastern Shakespeare", Li made significant contributions in various fields such as literary creation, drama theory, editing and publishing, garden architecture, calligraphy and painting, medical care, cultural leisure, and the art of living. He left behind numerous cultural treasures for future generations.

Li Wenjing, Party secretary of Xiali village, said that the best way to commemorate Li is to preserve his cultural essence, and the local government has in recent years been exploring Li Yu cultural heritage to develop rural tourism, immersive experiences, study tours, and nighttime economy.

Li added that authorities will continue to develop Li Yu culture through inheritance and enrich the cultural life of residents in the future.
