Jinhua in Zhejiang province is demonstrating a remarkable harmony between human activity and the natural environment through tangible initiatives.
Over the past few years, the city has significantly increased its investment in the comprehensive protection and rehabilitation of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, and grasslands. Notably, Jinhua boasts 12 wetland parks at or above the provincial level, securing its position as a frontrunner in the province.
One standout project is the Puyang River National Wetland Park in Pujiang county, representing a model "river-reservoir" composite wetland park in the city's hilly regions. Encompassing 1,290.62 hectares, the park exhibits an impressive wetland coverage rate of 41.59 percent.
The park is divided into distinct functional zones, including areas for ecological conservation, restoration and reconstruction, educational demonstration, rational utilization, and management services.
Furthermore, Jinhua has taken pioneering steps in the province by launching a pilot project for biodiversity-friendly cities. The Lanhu wetland in Lanxi stands as a splendid showcase of the city's wetland biodiversity, being the first wetland bird-watching site in Jinhua.
Official records indicate a total of 152 bird species in and around Lanhu Lake, spanning 19 orders and 51 families. Among these, 25 species are nationally protected, including the crested ibis, oriental white stork, and black-faced spoonbill.
These concerted efforts underscore Jinhua's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development, exemplifying a vision of coexistence between urban life and the natural world.
