Jinhua in Zhejiang province approved the "Regulations on the Protection, Inheritance, and Development of Wuju Opera" at the closing ceremony of the fourth session of the eighth Jinhua Municipal People's Congress on Feb 2.

Consisting of six chapters and 32 articles, the regulations provide detailed provisions for establishing a sound mechanism for the protection and inheritance of Wuju Opera and promoting its innovative development.

The regulations not only require local relevant departments to establish special funds for the protection and inheritance of Wuju Opera, but also actively promote the integration of Wuju Opera into school education.

The document calls for Wuju Opera schools to enroll students from primary and secondary schools, and encourages cultural centers and auditoriums to facilitate the performance of Wuju Opera troupes.

A national intangible cultural heritage, Jinhua's Wuju Opera has a history of nearly 500 years. It encompasses various singing styles, over 800 plays, and 1,000 musical melodies. Its unique facial makeup, costumes, props, and performance styles are deeply cherished by audiences.
