Shengmentan village in Dongyang, a county-level city in Jinhua, Zhejiang province has in recent years been tapping into its historical legacies to advance rural vitalization.

The village launched an initiative to renovate its idle ancient houses and transformed them into workshops that will be crucial to better preserving its cultural legacies and boosting rural tourism.

A notable feature is the blue calico workshop, which encompasses functional areas for design, engraving, paste application, dyeing, and exhibition, offering a glimpse into the historical evolution of the city's blue calico techniques and traditional agrarian culture.

The workshop also gives training in indigo dyeing, plant-based dyeing, and handcrafted edging to locals and has provided jobs for more than 300 residents.

In addition, the village hosted a series of activities featuring intangible cultural heritage displays and interactive experiences to drive the vitalization of traditional culture.
