The Small Wood Carving Art Museum in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, hosted a vibrant cultural event on May 18 to celebrate International Museum Day, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the charm of woodcarving.

Liao Jiangluo, head of the museum and an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage, captivated visitors with a live woodcarving demonstration.

As his chisel deftly shaped a wooden block, a lifelike human portrait emerged amid the flying wood shavings. The intricate details and vivid expressions drew frequent applause, leaving spectators in awe.

In the hands-on zone, children sanded bird-shaped models and painted them under the guidance of an instructor. "Creating my own artwork was so rewarding! I want to take part in more activities like this," exclaimed a delighted participant.

Liao emphasized that the event's goal was to deepen kids' connection to wood culture while nurturing their creativity and artistic appreciation.

He added that the museum plans to organize more activities to draw more people to woodcarving and to revitalize this traditional art.
