Nestled in Wuyi county, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, Liucheng She ethnic town offers visitors a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and ethnic charms this summer.
In the Shili Lotus scenic area, wooden walkways wind through endless lotus ponds. From late June, the best viewing period begins as thousands of blooms release their delicate fragrances into the gentle breeze.
At its heart lies the Species Garden, home to over 1,000 varieties across 20 countries. "Our garden has seen the first lotus bloom on May 16 for six consecutive years," said Wang He, in charge of the garden.
Visitors can also harvest fresh lotus seed pods in the ponds, tasting their sweet seeds firsthand.
Beyond flora, indulge in local delicacies along the Xuanping snack street in Xianhou village. Xuanping snack refers to the specialties of Wuyi county. Visitors can savor paper-thin wontons with generous fillings, chewy taro dumplings, and crispy fried tofu balls made from famed Xuanping tofu.
As Zhejiang's largest town of the She ethnic group with more than 3,600 of its people, Liucheng boasts a rich ethnic culture.
The She Ethnic Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is a place for visitors to explore the culture. They can wear She ethnic costumes, don traditional phoenix headdresses, and even experience their wedding rituals by role-playing as a bride or groom.
