Over 100 participants of the world's first "Nature-based Solutions" summer school visited Jinhua in East China's Zhejiang province on June 30, including representatives from the International Union for Conservation of Nature and NbS Global Hub, renowned experts, and trainees.
Jointly organized by IUCN, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Peking University, this initiative aims to empower future leaders in ecological conservation, sustainable development, and policy design through hands-on learning.
Participants made field visits to the Puyang River eco-corridor in Pujiang county, Yanweizhou Park in Wucheng district, and Yangzijiang Ecological Park in Lanxi county-level city to observe local achievements in ecological conservation and urban landscape planning.
Over recent years, Jinhua has prioritized ecological conservation via integrated governance of mountain, water, forest, farmland, lake, road, and village. Collaborations with masters of landscape design have fused local culture with modern technology, which has transformed cityscapes while preserving biodiversity.
Participants praised Jinhua's blue skies, clear waters, and fresh air, which reflect its tangible success in ecological governance. The city's holistic approaches align closely with NbS principles — a comprehensive framework proposed by the World Bank and promoted by IUCN.
With the NbS Shanghai Hub established on June 23, officials at Jinhua natural resources and planning bureau said that Jinhua will deepen research on localized applications of NbS and expand international partnerships, sharing its practices in ecological conservation globally.
