Liangjiashan village — surrounded by mountains in Wuyi county, Jinhua, Zhejiang province — embodies a delicate harmony.
Ancient dwellings with yellow-earth walls and gray-tiled roofs stand amid terraced fields, painting an idyllic rural scene where heritage preservation meets modern tourism through thriving homestays.
With its roots tracing back over 400 years, the village has transformed its idle adobe houses into homestays since 2015. Supported by the local government, Liangjiashan carried out the renovation while protecting the original ecology.
Ancient houses were revitalized using mud, wood, and tiles, preserving historic charm while adding contemporary comforts. Stone paths, old trails, melon trellises, and hen coops were preserved and renovated to further enrich the rustic ambiance.
Today, over a dozen homestays dot the village. Facilities including restaurants, tea lounges, chess and cards rooms, and banquet halls blend seamlessly into the landscape.
One, called the Qingfengju Homestay, is revamped from the old house of resident Bao Wei'e. Winding stone pathways lead to wooden interiors, harmonizing simplicity with elegance. An outdoor pool mirrors surrounding greenery while the balcony offers a panoramic view of layered hillsides and farmlands beyond.
Beyond architecture, visitors can also immerse themselves in rural lives through hands-on experiences like tofu grinding and bonfire gatherings. Free from commercial clamor, they can savor homemade flavors and quiet moments enveloped by nature.
