A cultural performance celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 75th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations was held at the National Theater of Yangon in Myanmar on Sept 20 and 21, local time.

The Zhejiang Wuju Opera Art Research Institute (Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe) from Jinhua in East China's Zhejiang province enchanted the audience with classic Wuju Opera performances.

The event was attended by over 2,000 guests including China's Ambassador to Myanmar Ma Jia and Myanmar's Minister for Information Maung Maung Ohn.

Myanmar artists also took the stage, presenting excerpts from the classical epic Ramayana. Their performances highlighted the artistic beauty and cultural charm of Southeast Asian countries.

As a national intangible cultural heritage with a history of over 500 years, Wuju Opera has seen increased popularity and influence in China and around the world. The performance enabled the locals to gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture.

The most popular performance was Sun Wukong's Three Battles with the White-Bone Demon from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.

Ambassador Ma said while the locals are familiar with the story, this was the first time they had seen it presented in an opera format.

Maung Maung Ohn praised the performances and expressed his hope that there would be more such performances in his country.

The event also featured a cultural exhibition at the national theater, where visitors experienced traditional crafts such as embroidery and sugar painting from China and the Thanaka powder from Myanmar.
