The sugarcane fields in Huitan village, Lanxi county-level city, Jinhua, Zhejiang province, entered the harvest season on Oct 13.

Local villagers were busy in the fields, pulling up sugarcane stalks, removing dirt, and bundling them up according to orders from fruit merchants. The harvest season can last until December.

Huitan village has a long history of sugarcane cultivation. The local sandy soil provides an excellent environment for the crops to grow. Due to the environment and continuously improved cultivation techniques, Huitan sugarcane is uniquely crisp, sweet, tender, and juicy.

On June 4, 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs approved the geographical indication registration for "Huitan Sugarcane".

In recent years, with the expansion of sugarcane cultivation, the village has focused on extending the industrial chain. It has developed sugarcane-based products, including brown sugar cakes and pastries.
