Over 70 international students from Zhejiang Normal University visited the 2025 China Folk Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Yongkang, a county-level city of Jinhua, Zhejiang province, on Oct 18.

Many of the students, who come from more than 20 countries, including Pakistan, Russia, India, and Morocco, are visiting China for the first time and show a strong interest in traditional Chinese culture.

The exhibition featured hundreds of works spanning a range of categories, including ceramics, woodcarvings, lacquerware, embroidery, paper-cutting, shadow puppets, and clay sculptures.

A standout piece was a dragon lantern adorned with seven-colored lights, showcasing a blend of traditional techniques, including woodworking, bamboo weaving, and paper cutting. Its lifelike design and exquisite craftsmanship left the students in awe.

A student from Bangladesh, whose Chinese name is Li Mingzhou, was amazed that the movable dragon lantern was entirely handmade.

Another student, whose Chinese name is Li Hui, previously participated in Chinese cultural activities like dragon boat racing and Wuju Opera performances. She said that this exhibition allowed her to experience the richness of Chinese culture, leaving her astonished by the preservation of these intricate crafts.

Zhu Linping, chairman of the Yongkang Federation of Literary and Art Circles, expressed hope that such events would inspire greater global appreciation for traditional Chinese culture.
