Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinhua, East China's Zhejiang province known for its bustling small commodities market and rich culture, is set to become one of the four sub-venues for China Central Television's Spring Festival Gala 2026.
During Zhejiang province's two sessions, Chen Feng, a deputy to the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress and head of Yiwu's Tongyue Social Work Service Center, emphasized that this culturally rich event represents a not-to-be-missed opportunity to highlight Yiwu's allure and inject new momentum into the region's growth.
As a cherished cultural event for Chinese communities worldwide, the CCTV Spring Festival Gala is the most-watched annual TV event on a global level.
Chen highlighted Yiwu's unique blend of traditional culture, thriving commerce, and international ambiance as key factors for its selection as a sub-venue. He said local people are enthusiastic and excited about showcasing Yiwu's colorful culture on the national stage.
"The 'Spring Festival Gala Economy' could spark fresh vitality, potentially leading to popular Yiwu-inspired products and innovative creations," Chen said.
He said local people expect this will draw more visitors to Yiwu. Preparations are already afoot to accommodate the expected influx of tourists after the gala airs, he added.
With about a month to go, Yiwu residents are eagerly awaiting this culturally rich event. Chen said the gala would provide an international audience with insights into China's Spring Festival and its cultural significance.
