Zhejiang Wuju Opera Art Research Institute, Lanxi Li Yu Drama Academy, and Jindong District Wuju Opera Art Inheritance Center from Jinhua, Zhejiang province, brought authentic Chinese New Year experiences to audiences at the Spring Festival celebrations in London, the United Kingdom, from Feb 21 to 23.

The troupe performed on Feb 21 at a special Spring Festival reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the UK for the families of survivors from the Lisbon Maru and members of the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding.

Over 100 guests enjoyed classic Wuju Opera performances, as well as Ansai waist drumming and suona (a double-reed woodwind instrument) solo performances by Shaanxi artists, creating a stunning artistic feast.

The troupe also performed at the Camden Market Spring Festival temple fair on Feb 21, where many attendees, encountering Wuju Opera for the first time, praised the ancient art form and expressed interest in exploring Chinese culture.

The Wuju Opera team delivered a five-hour performance alongside other troupes and local artists on Feb 22 at the Trafalgar Square Spring Festival celebrations, the largest outside Asia, which attracted over 700,000 people.

The team also held a sharing session on Feb 23, demonstrating the unique skills of Wuju Opera and introducing its characteristics, performing techniques, and cultural connotations.
