This year, Yiwu in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, has formed 12 new international friendship city relationships, expanding its network to 62 cities in 38 countries, leading among China's county-level cities, according to Yiwu foreign affairs office.
To broaden its global connections, Yiwu utilizes key channels, including Chinese and foreign embassies, international organizations, and overseas Chinese communities, focusing on industry, trade, and culture. It has identified 15 potential partner cities, setting the stage for future collaborations.
Key opportunities such as official visits and international conferences have accelerated these partnerships. In June, during a visit to France, Yiwu city representatives established ties with Avignon and Villepinte and strengthened relations with Aubervilliers. A trade event in Paris resulted in 12 cooperation agreements being signed in trade, logistics, and warehousing, boosting economic momentum.
Practical cooperation is crucial beyond forming partnerships. In August 2025, Africa's first brand export store opened in Nairobi, showcasing Yiwu's products and meeting Africa's consumer demand.
Yiwu also fosters youth exchanges and exhibition platforms. Its international sister-city youth exchange program attracted 238 young entrepreneurs from 47 countries and regions for seven youth entrepreneurship sessions. The sixth Zhejiang International Friendship City Exchange Exhibition featured participants from 24 cities in 18 countries, with intended deals exceeding 1 billion yuan ($148.31 million).
