East China's Zhejiang province recently launched construction on the first pier of a 4,150-kilometer nexus bridge along the Hangzhou-Wenzhou Railway. It was a milestone for the railway's second phase of construction.

The second phase of construction on the Hangzhou-Wenzhou Railway started on Dec 30, 2020 and will pass through Tonglu county in Hangzhou, Pujiang county in Jinhua, and Yiwu city in Jinhua.

The railway section, 59 km in length, will cost a total of 9.48 billion yuan ($1.47 billion), and 94.5 percent of the section will consist of bridges and tunnels. In addition, two new railway stations will be built in Tonglu and Pujiang. Trains on the railway will be able to travel 350 km per hour.

The 319-km Hangzhou-Wenzhou Railway will be the fastest means of transportation between Hangzhou and Wenzhou, shortening travel time between the two cities to just one hour.
