In 1999, invited by the Wenzhou government, Chen Yongkun returned to the city – located in East China's Zhejiang province – to invest in the Wenzhou World Trade Center. Chen was spoken highly of in 2002 by Hu Jintao, then China's vice-president, praising his return to China to invest in the country.
