Yongjia county, administered by Wenzhou, is located on the north banks of the lower Oujiang River. It borders Yueqing in the east, Qingtian and Jinyun counties in Lishui in the west, Xianju county and Huangyan district in Taizhou in the north and is opposite Wenzhou's urban area across the Oujiang River.

Yongjia covers an area of 2,677 sq km, equivalent to one quarter of Wenzhou's total area, making it the fourth largest county in Zhejiang and the largest one in Wenzhou.

The county has been known variously as "China's Hometown of Longevity", "China's Hometown of Pump Valves", "China's Capital of Buttons", "China's Capital of Teaching Toys" and "China's Cradle of Scenic Poems".

With a subtropical monsoon climate, Yongjia is warm and humid and has four distinct seasons. Its abundant rainfall and plenty of heat makes it great for growing crops.

The forest land area in Yongjia is more than 3.2 million mu (213,640 hectares), accounting for 79.79 percent of the county's total land area – making it the fifth largest county in Zhejiang and the largest in Wenzhou in terms of forestry. The forest coverage rate has reached an estimated 76.98 percent.
