Rui'an, a county-level city administered by Wenzhou in Zhejiang, is a significant modern industrial and trading city in the province, as well as being an historic city and a geographic center in the southern part of the Wenzhou metropolitan area.

Covering a land area of 1,350 sq km and a sea area of 3,037 sq km, the city has jurisdiction over 12 sub-districts, 11 towns, a total of 61 communities and 910 administrative villages.

With a subtropical oceanic monsoon climate, Rui'an experiences no severe cold and heat during the year, has a short winter and long summer, with four distinct seasons and abundant rain.

As the National 104 Highway passes through it from north to south, Rui'an enjoys a favorable location and traffic conditions. It is 34 kilometers from downtown Wenzhou and 385 km from the province's capital of Hangzhou.

In 2020, the GDP of the city was 103.7 billion yuan ($16.02 billion), up 3.3 percent on the previous year. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural permanent residents was 67,301 yuan and 35,872 yuan, respectively up 4 percent and 7.1 percent.
