Recently, a film crew from Wenzhou Overseas Media Center and Vincent – a leading social media anchor from Paris, France – went out on a special trip together.

They travelled to Yangyi sub-district – in the Lucheng district of Wenzhou city, in East China's Zhejiang province – focusing their lens on the colored-stone mosaic industry located there.

It is understood that the colored-stone mosaic process is a combination of stone carving and wood carving. It began in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) – taking at least 18 production processes to complete a colored-stone mosaic work.

Each process requires enormous effort from the craftsman. In 2008, the craft was selected in the second batch of the national intangible cultural heritage list.

At present, there are only about 20 employees in Wenzhou engaged in the colored-stone mosaic industry. Miao Chengjin, a master of arts and crafts in Zhejiang and the head of the colored-stone mosaic studio in Yangyi sub-district, is one of its leading figures.

Frenchman Vincent said he has lived in Wenzhou for many years and is particularly fond of Chinese  traditional culture and fascinated by Wenzhou's crafts and intangible cultural heritage.

This time he had the opportunity to experience the beauty of colored-stone mosaic at close range, which was exhilarating. He also hopes that through the video, more overseas netizens – as well as relatives and friends in his hometown – will appreciate the charms of Wenzhou's intangible cultural heritage.
