Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province will develop itself into a global consumer goods center, according to a plan released by the local government recently.

The plan states that Wenzhou will take advantage of current platforms such as the Wenzhou free trade zone and the cross-border e-commerce pilot zone to facilitate the establishment of a wine culture exhibition center in Wencheng county, a center of import commodities by overseas Chinese trade in Rui'an, a county-level city under the administration of Wenzhou, as well as a global commodity trading port, which is expected to have an annual import value of 10 billion yuan ($1.57 billion).

Wenzhou will also strive to attract more high-quality consumer goods to the city by inviting renowned brands from across the globe to open stores and experience centers in the city.

The city will also integrate new business models like livestreaming e-commerce with traditional commercial approaches to boost the development of new consumption patterns. Wenzhou is expected to form an integrated industrial chain of procurement trade, cross-border e-commerce, and general trade by the end of 2023, which would in turn help boost the trade volume of cross-border e-commerce to 5 billion yuan.
