Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province recently rolled out a special QR code to help with epidemiological investigations in densely populated public places.

The new code is an upgraded version of the original health QR code as it can identify not only the cities but also the exact locations that people have been to.

People who scan the new QR code will have their information uploaded to the Wenzhou Integrated Intelligent Public Data Platform, which is expected to help with contact tracing.

The new code is currently being utilized in more than 120,000 public places in Wenzhou, such as office buildings, quarantined residential communities, schools, hospitals, drug stores, restaurants, hotels, food markets, cinemas, and sporting venues.

Other cities in Zhejiang province, including Hangzhou, Ningbo and Zhoushan, have also been using the new QR code.

People can access the code via mobile apps such as WeChat and Alipay.
