The centuries-old picture scrolls painted by master Ye Cheng of Yandang Mountain and its magnificent embodiment in a humble corner in Yueqing city, Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, recently impressed domestic spectators on a cultural TV show produced by China Central Television.

"The scrolls not only bring out poetic and pictorial splendor but also inspire people in various ways," said Kang Zhen, professor at Beijing Normal University, while sharing his reflections on the show.

Unlike previous episodes featuring CG and other means of presentation, the one on Yandang Mountain required the camera crew to visit many renowned scenic spots in the area and render a novel take on the love story that has been passed on through oral traditions for centuries.

For a thousand years a great deal of historic culture has been accumulated from Yandang Mountain: in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) there were 18 famous ancient temples. With the rebuilding of hill roads and the renovation of temples, travelers began to visit Yandang Mountain and left many poems and inscriptions.
