Some 20 foreigners gathered at the Wenzhou Overseas Media Center on Dec 14 to share their experiences and reflections on working as international volunteers in the city, local media outlets reported.

Kimberly Koll-Zhu, an associate professor from the United States who currently works at Wenzhou University, said the considerate help she received from the Wenzhou government and its people over the past 10 years has motivated her to set up a team of international volunteers in the city.

Abdul Zahir Hamad, a Pakistani orthopedist at the local Panhealth Medical Center, suggested that international volunteers contribute their expertise in various fields, such as offering free language training, directing traffic, and participating in community services.

Alexandra Dybrynina, chief representative of a US company in Wenzhou, called for the public to put more emphasis on environmental protection and do their part by not littering.

"It might sound trivial, but when everyone does it, it makes a big difference," Dybrynina said.

The salon was held by the foreign affairs office of the Wenzhou municipal government, Wenzhou people's association for friendship with foreign countries, and Wenzhou Overseas Media Center.

The day also witnessed the licensing of Wenzhou's first International Voluntary Service Center in Lucheng district.
