The Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center will host two high-profile football matches on April 3 and 7 as part of preparation for the Hangzhou Asian Games, local media outlets reported.

The matches will feature four teams from the Chinese Super League, namely Shanghai Shenhua, Changchun Yatai, Beijing Guoan, and Nantong Zhiyun.

The Wenzhou Olympic Sports Center can hold up to 50,000 spectators and will be used for the Asian Games football tournament later this year. These test matches will serve as a trial of the stadium's hardware and software capabilities for hosting international events.

One of the highlights of the matches will be the homecoming of Beijing Guoan player Zhang Yuning, who hails from Wenzhou. Zhang Yuning is a rising star in Chinese football, having scored 19 goals in 30 appearances for Beijing Guoan in the 2022 season and earning the title of the Chinese Super League's top domestic scorer.

The first match on April 3 will see Shanghai Shenhua take on Changchun Yatai. The second match on April 7 will feature Beijing Guoan go head-to-head with Nantong Zhiyun. Beijing Guoan was founded in 1992 and won the Chinese Super League championship in 2009. The team has a history with Wenzhou, having won the Chinese Super Cup against Dalian Wanda in the city back in 1998.
