Wenzhou Customs reported that the city exported 72.53 million yuan ($10.14 million) worth of pre-packaged food by market procurement last year, constituting nearly 70 percent of Zhejiang province’s total share.

The market procurement trade export pilot project for pre-packaged food was first promoted in the city in October 2022, expanding the export avenues for Wenzhou’s food and enhancing the overall convenience of food trade.

The Wenzhou (Lucheng) market gathering area allows for the swift purchase, declaration, and clearance of pre-packaged foods from various categories and origins across the country.

"After learning of the substantial demand for Wenzhou's local brand food abroad, we began actively advocating for the expansion of the positive list for export," expressed Hu Haoyu, a Wenzhou Customs official. In February of last year, following a risk assessment, the positive list was expanded to 15 major categories.

"ow, not only are goods such as soy products, rice and flour products, and candied fruits available for purchase locally, but Wenzhou-born overseas Chinese can also enjoy their hometown’s specialties while abroad," boasted Xie Pengcheng, head of Jiajing Trading Co Ltd. The company's exports exceeded 35 million yuan in 2023.
