Taishun county in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, reignited its vibrant She ethnic Sanyuesan Festival on April 11 after a four-year pause.

The event, which runs until April 14, is a cultural mosaic, offering visitors a novel blend of tourism and tradition in Siqian She ethnic town and Zhuli She ethnic township.

To celebrate the Sanyuesan Festival, a day steeped in She heritage, locals don festive garb and express camaraderie through song. The festival is a cultural conduit, fostering inter-ethnic harmony and regional prosperity. It has become a distinctive event, with Taishun, Wencheng, Pingyang, and Cangnan counties sharing hosting duties.

The opening ceremony captivated audiences with She folk performances, reflecting the community’s dedication to preserving their cultural identity.

The festivities also featured the She Black Rice Feast, the Longteng Market with its culinary and heritage displays, and a series of traditional She sports, including bamboo pole dancing and wild pig chasing, drawing crowds eager to partake in the cultural revelry.

A highlight of the event was the participation of 14 Taiwan Gaoshan people, symbolizing the unity of dreams and beliefs across ethnic lines.

The festival attracted over 50,000 visitors on the first day, generating a total of more than 1 million yuan ($138,195.1) in tourism revenue.
