Wenzhou is stepping up efforts to help local firms expand into Southeast Asia by upgrading its overseas exhibitions, local media outlets reported.

From June 4 to 7, the 2025 China (Indonesia) Trade Expo in Jakarta — now the largest China-led industrial trade show in the RCEP region — drew over 36,000 professional buyers and generated $3.37 billion in intended deals.

A total of 55 Wenzhou companies participated, securing $215 million in intended orders. Wenzhou's Sanying Machinery saw such strong demand that even its on-site samples were sold out. "This year, buyer traffic rose by 30 percent, and deals were more professional," said Wu Tijin, Sanying's general manager.

This year's expo expanded to 40,000 square meters, attracting over 1,000 companies from 78 cities across 20 provinces. Now focused entirely on industrial supply chains, the exhibition covered 15 key sectors, including new energy, auto parts, and packaging machinery.

Cutting-edge AI tools also enhanced efficiency. Wenzhou exhibitors used smart glasses powered by the AI Smart Expo system, enabling real-time multilingual translation and intelligent buyer matching, even without human translators.

According to Wenzhou's commerce bureau, the city has mapped out 177 key overseas exhibitions for 2024 across more than 60 cities, with upcoming shows planned in Russia, South Africa, Vietnam, and India. From January to May, Wenzhou firms joined over 130 trade events, securing $1.58 billion in potential orders.
