As Typhoon Bavi approached Wenzhou, volunteers, rescue workers and community organizations mobilized across the city to help protect residents through evacuations, relief services and neighborhood patrols, the Wenzhou civil affairs bureau said.
In Cangnan county, more than 600 emergency rescue volunteers were deployed across 18 towns. In Xiaguan town, volunteers evacuated over 200 villagers, including elderly residents with limited mobility, in just over two hours. Rescue teams in Rui'an relocated 215 people and removed 26 safety hazards.
Charities and community groups delivered emergency supplies, hot meals and shelter, while in Dongtou district, more than 1,800 members of the Haixia Mothers volunteer group inspected old neighborhoods and helped relocate 233 residents from high-risk areas.
One frontline worker who drew attention was Xiaguan town official Zhao Beilei. After receiving an evacuation assignment late at night, she slept only two hours before returning to work.
When reporters tried to film her, Zhao waved her hands and shyly said, "This feels too much like putting on a show. Please don't film me." Fighting back tears, she added that the priority was to ensure every resident reached safety, even if the risk was small.
