Zhejiang unveils new batch of characteristic towns
Zhejiang province has announced the eighth batch of characteristic towns, adding five new projects, including Binjiang Robot Town, Linping China Town of Computing Power, and Xiaoshan Membrane Material Town.
With the new additions, Zhejiang now has 140 characteristic towns — 90 officially named and 50 under development.
These innovation-driven towns serve as key platforms for developing new quality productive forces and advancing Zhejiang's modern industrial system.
The latest batch focuses on industries such as digital economy, high-end equipment, and life sciences, with an emphasis on strengthening and refining specialized industrial clusters while upgrading their structure, function, and governance models.
For instance, Binjiang Robot Town builds on a strong industrial base, home to leading firms like Unitree Robotics and several provincial-level research institutes. It aims to become a hub for embodied intelligence innovation, humanoid robot manufacturing, and AI application scenarios.
Zhejiang maintains strict standards for its characteristic towns. Earlier this year, the province issued the Management Measures for the Full Life Cycle of Zhejiang Characteristic Towns (Trial), introducing an annual evaluation system to guide recognition, adjustment, and removal, ensuring dynamic management and survival of the fittest.
