Zhejiang will develop around 100 boutique hotels with a distinctive local identity under the newly released action plan issued by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism.

The plan calls for original design, distinctive offerings, personalized service, and immersive experiences to position these hotels as top choices for travelers seeking a quality stay in Zhejiang.

Renovation of historic sites, old venues, and heritage buildings will follow the principles of minimal intervention, low investment, and maximum protection. By restoring historical features, embedding local culture, and recreating classic scenes, the province aims to create authentic landmark properties rich in character and nostalgia.

Hotels will be encouraged to integrate local cultural elements into room design through art displays, music, fragrance, and lighting, and to use regional materials such as bamboo, silk, celadon, and tea to create differentiated amenities. Zhejiang will also promote wellness products like hot spring soaking, herbal treatments, and plant-based therapies.

The plan supports developing pet-friendly, eco-friendly, and family-oriented room types, expanding dining choices that respect dietary customs and preferences, and creating new cultural spaces in public areas for tea ceremonies, incense practices, intangible cultural heritage displays, meditation, reading, and performances.
