Yiwu, a major trading hub in East China's Zhejiang province, made a dazzling appearance on China Media Group's 2026 Spring Festival Gala on the evening of Feb 16.
Using a feather drifting down from the sky as a central image, the program reimagined Yiwu's grassroots entrepreneurial story of "trading chicken feathers for sugar", tracing the city's journey from humble beginnings to a globally connected marketplace.
Cinematic shots moved from Ximen Old Street to the bustling Yiwu International Trade Market, passing modern CBD buildings and vibrant rural communities. Elements such as China-Europe freight trains and the film and television industry in Dongyang's Hengdian further highlighted Zhejiang's openness and innovation.
Internationally renowned actor Jackie Chan joined local performers in reenacting the historic street cries of peddlers, bringing intangible cultural heritage items such as Yiwu brown sugar and traditional ballad singing to life.
The spotlight later shifted to the world-famous trade market, where shop owners showcased the dynamism of the city dubbed "the world's supermarket". Scenes of livestreaming sales, electronic payments and smart logistics underscored Yiwu's thriving digital trade.
Another highlight emerged when Jackie Chan and American singer Lionel Richie performed together, symbolizing pan-continental friendship and shared aspirations. Later, artists from across the globe joined in the chorus.
Through its blend of tradition and technology, local culture and global vision, Yiwu presented to the world a vivid portrait of a pioneering Zhejiang and a confident, open China.
