Factories across the city have already resumed operations following Chinese New Year. At Ningbo WTOO Machinery Technology Co, more than 100 digital production lines are running at full speed, producing advanced automotive components, including high-precision micro ball bearings. Collaboration with Ningbo University and other local institutions has enabled breakthroughs in micro ball bearing durability and noise reduction, helping the company achieve profit margins that are 30 percent higher than those of traditional products.

Ningbo's manufacturing strategy emphasizes collaboration across industrial chains, with the city now hosting 119 national single-item champion manufacturing enterprises, ranking first among Chinese cities for eight consecutive years.

In Yuyao, a county-level city in Ningbo, Sunny Group has united upstream and downstream partners and research institutes to form an innovation consortium that jointly tackles core photonics technologies. In the Ningbo Petrochemical Economic and Technological Development Zone, a 900-kilometer pipeline network forms part of a highly efficient green petrochemical industrial chain led by Zhenhai Refining and Chemical Co, which coordinates technology sharing and addresses more than 20 core technical challenges.

Over 2,000 leading scientists and young researchers have been recruited through initiatives such as the Yongjiang Talent Project, which supports more than 400 innovation projects annually. Postdoctoral teams undertake over 100 breakthrough projects each year, while institutions such as the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering and the Eastern Institute of Technology, Ningbo, provide a continuous stream of expertise to enterprises.

By integrating enterprise-led research, government support, and cross-sector collaboration, Ningbo has created a thriving innovation ecosystem. With advanced industrial clusters, robust talent pipelines, and cutting-edge research platforms, the city is solidifying its position as a national hub for advanced manufacturing and technological innovation.
