An intangible cultural heritage (ICH) performance and parade commenced at the square of the Chinese Traditional Culture Museum (CTCM) in Beijing on Feb 28, spotlighting the bench dragon, horse lantern, and fish lantern from Pujiang county in Jinhua, Zhejiang province.
Celebrating Spring Festival while promoting traditional Chinese culture, the Museum of the Communist Party of China and CTCM co-hosted the event, inviting ICH projects to perform on Feb 28 and March 1.
At 2:30 pm, the rhythmic sound of drums heralded the arrival of nine Pujiang bench dragons. They showcased classic designs such as the heavenward dragon and earthward dragon, each adorned with elements of bamboo weaving and paper cutting, creating a majestic spectacle.
Following the dragons, the horse lanterns, or Pujiang leima, made their entrance, also incorporating traditional bamboo weaving and paper-cutting techniques. Additionally, 18 colorful fish lanterns swayed gracefully at the square, adding a unique charm to Beijing's Spring Festival.
Ren Wenjun, director of the Jinhua Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, said this marks the seventh Beijing performance of the "Wufeng Yiyun" brand. Since its debut in Beijing in 2022, the brand has evolved into a renowned cultural symbol in Zhejiang, exemplifying Jinhua's commitment to protecting and innovating intangible cultural heritage.
