Unmanned delivery vehicle begins trial in Zhoushan's Shengsi county
An unmanned delivery vehicle introduced by China Post's Shengsi branch has begun trial operations at the shared logistics distribution center in Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, marking a step toward smarter logistics in island areas.
The vehicle, similar in size to a small van, has a capacity of 5 cubic meters and can carry 300 to 400 parcels per trip. It has a top speed of 40 kilometers per hour and a range of up to 300 km, allowing it to efficiently complete deliveries.
After loading at the distribution center, the vehicle travels along preset routes to service stations in Qingsha village and Jinping village. Once unloading is completed at each station, it returns to the center for the next delivery cycle.
A company representative said delivery to remote island villages has long faced high costs, with the use of unmanned vehicles expected to improve efficiency and reduce expenses. It will also help upgrade integrated passenger, cargo, and postal services, making parcel collection more convenient for residents.
Following the trial phase, more unmanned vehicles will be deployed, with plans to expand delivery coverage to better meet local demand.
