Jiaxing tourism revenue reaches $1.25b during May Day holiday
Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province recorded strong tourism growth during the May Day holiday, receiving 6.2 million visits and generating 8.53 billion yuan ($1.25 billion) in tourism revenue from May 1 to 5.
The city held more than 20 performances, exhibitions, and sports events during the holiday, with a regional opera art week under the "Zheli Youxi" cultural brand, which staged 164 performances over six days, attracting more than 515,000 visits and generating 180 million yuan.
Thanks to the popularity of Wuyue Cup soccer matches, 21 live screening sites for Wuyue Cup attracted over 50,000 spectators and boosted consumption by more than 15 million yuan. A cultural market featuring 65 booths generated more than 300,000 yuan in sales.
Xincheng Old Street recorded peak daily visits exceeding 100,000, while Zicheng Ruins Park received 109,200 visits through immersive Song Dynasty (960-1279)-themed activities.
The city introduced 145 promotional measures, including vouchers, ticket discounts, and hotel offers, with average occupancy reaching 80 percent.
