Ningbo's 'new trio' exports reach 28.5b yuan
Ningbo's exports of the "new trio" products — electric vehicles (EVs), lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic (PV) products — maintained strong momentum in the first five months of 2026.
Exports of the three categories reached 28.51 billion yuan ($4.21 billion) from January to May, soaring 140 percent year-on-year. EVs accounted for 18.11 billion yuan, while lithium-ion batteries and PV products contributed 5.95 billion yuan and 4.44 billion yuan, respectively.
Private companies played a dominant role, generating 27.12 billion yuan in "new trio" exports — 95.1 percent of the city's total during the period.
This growth reflects Ningbo manufacturers' shift from simply exporting products to providing integrated technologies, standards, and customized green energy solutions.
Ningbo Ulica Solar has expanded its international footprint with a sales company and warehouse in Germany, while tapping into emerging Belt and Road markets, including Ukraine. Its exports of PV products rose 48.1 percent in the first five months.
Shuangyili Ningbo Battery is also gaining global recognition. Its liquid-cooled commercial and industrial energy storage systems have secured major projects in the United States and Malaysia, with further expansion underway in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa. The company's lithium battery exports jumped 230 percent year-on-year.
To facilitate the industry's growth, Ningbo Customs has strengthened support for lithium battery exporters by improving compliance with hazardous packaging requirements and reducing packaging costs by 30 percent while maintaining inspection pass rates above 99 percent.
