Jiaxing Port in East China's Zhejiang province has opened its first International Joint Inspection Centre for Seafarers, introducing a one-stop clearance process that replaces separate inspections by customs and border inspection authorities.

The facility began operations on July 23, with six crew members becoming the first to use the new system. Previously, crew members changing shifts had to undergo separate customs and immigration inspections at different locations. Under the new arrangement, they complete the health quarantine, identity verification, and baggage inspection in a single location.

The center was established to meet growing demand as the port expands its international shipping network. Jiaxing's proximity to major international airports in Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Ningbo has also made it an increasingly attractive location for crew changes.

The facility includes waiting, inspection, and secondary screening areas equipped with security gates, X-ray scanners, and handheld metal detectors. It also implements mutual recognition of baggage inspection results between customs and border inspection authorities, allowing officers from both agencies to conduct inspections simultaneously.

The streamlined process reduces duplicate checks, shortens overall clearance times for seafarers, and improves operational efficiency for shipping companies and port agents.
