Humanoid robots are bringing a new visitor experience to the Longyou Grottoes in Longyou county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, with weekend performances and interactive activities now taking place inside the ancient underground site.

Two robots performed a five-minute dance in Grotto No 2 on Sept 7, moving their arms, turning, and stepping to music as visitors watched and took photos. After the performance, the robots waved and posed for photos with visitors.

The robots were introduced at the site in late August and now perform and interact with visitors every weekend, according to Zhan Li, deputy manager of the grottoes' operations management department.

A visitor surnamed Li from Pinghu, Jiaxing, said she had expected a conventional visit to the grottoes and was surprised to see the robot performance.

The scenic area also plans to introduce robot guide services during the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7. The robots are expected to answer visitors' questions about the history and culture of the Longyou Grottoes and provide information about the site.
