A Luban Workshop, co-founded by Jinhua University of Vocational Technology (JUVT) in Zhejiang province and Rwanda Polytechnic, is training local talent for Rwanda's industries and adding a new chapter to China-Africa vocational education cooperation.
Opened in November 2023, the workshop has enrolled 440 students in electrical automation technology and e-commerce.
Qian Xiangming, dean of JUVT's Musanze International College, said a joint Chinese-Rwandan team studied Rwanda's vocational education system, industry needs, and workforce to develop training plans, curricula, and assessments, adding that this marks the systematic export of Chinese vocational education standards.
Nearly 20 batches of teachers have been sent to Rwanda, and over 100 local teachers have been trained. Under the Future of Africa-Vocational Education Cooperation Plan, top students are selected to study for two years in Rwanda and one year in China.
Qian said a digital platform using 5G and cloud computing now lets Rwandan students remotely operate real equipment in China, enabling cross-border sharing of teaching resources and providing an innovative path for practical cross-border teaching in China-Africa vocational education cooperation.
