Yongkang, called Lizhou in ancient times, has a total area of 1,049 square kilometers and is located in the southwest of Jinhua city in East China's Zhejiang province. It has jurisdiction over 11 towns, three sub-districts and a provincial economic development zone, as well as jurisdiction of a provincial modern agricultural equipment high-tech zone.

In all, the county-level city has a registered population of 615,000.

Yongkang is dominated by the manufacturing industry and has a strong overall economy. It has been one of the top 100 counties and county-level cities in China for 14 consecutive years. In 2019, Yongkang's GDP reached 62.96 billion yuan ($9.72 billion), up 6.2 percent year-on-year.

Yongkang has a sound hardware industry cluster which has established eight hardware industries, including the automobile industry, the household doors industry, power tools, electrical appliances and kitchenware. In recent years, it has also developed two emerging industries, one of which is the medical machinery industry.

It also has a rich cultural and historical background. The county's Zhiying Town, a national historical and cultural town – and folk arts represented by the 18 butterflies dance, the Jiushitu lion dance and tin carving – are renowned internationally.

The county also reportedly boasts a superb business environment and living conditions.
