As Dragon Boat Festival approaches, many parents in Longquan, a county-level city in Lishui, Zhejiang province, are looking for good-luck gifts for their children as they prepare for the national college entrance exam, or gaokao.
Li Min, mother of a student, pre-ordered a blessing gift set co-launched by Wang'ou Taoxichuan and celadon artist Jin Xin, praising its design, meaning, and practicality.
The set combines festival traditions with exam wishes. It includes a waterproof backpack, a celadon zongzi (glutinous rice with various fillings wrapped in leaves) pendant, and a pencil case.
The pendant, designed by Jin Xin, features plum-green glaze, sunflower and osmanthus patterns symbolizing academic success, basketball elements, and a colorful cord — all conveying the wish for top exam results.
The production team aims to vitalize local heritage through practical, youth-friendly products. The limited edition has seen strong demand, with orders driving rapid production.
Similarly, Longquan Yifan Celadon Factory launched a celadon zongzi pendant in three glaze colors. The word for zongzi sounds like "success" in Chinese, making it a popular charm for students. Owner Zhou Qinghong reported 700 to 800 orders in the first week.
The brand Zhanghongji took a different approach, creating a liquid aromatherapy product with a celadon zongzi-shaped body that diffuses essential oils. Design director Chen Yijie said the product suits modern homes and offices and appeals to younger consumers. Over 1,500 sets were sold within days.
